Independent Listener (voluntary)
The Independent Listener role at Dallam School is a voluntary position that provides an important source of independent support for our boarding students.
The successful volunteer will offer a confidential, safe and non-judgemental listening service, helping boarders to talk openly about any worries or concerns while respecting their right to privacy and, where appropriate, anonymity. The role involves promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all students, supporting young people to express their views and play an active role in decisions affecting them, and working collaboratively with the boarding team while remaining impartial and independent. Any safeguarding or child protection concerns must be reported immediately to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead in line with school policy.
The Independent Listener will also maintain appropriate confidential records, provide general feedback on emerging themes or concerns to the Head of Boarding without breaching confidentiality, attend safeguarding training as required, and uphold professional boundaries at all times. Above all, the role requires a child-centred, inclusive and compassionate approach that respects the diverse backgrounds of our boarding community.
