Year 12 Business students impress with investment analysis presentations

Year 12 Business students at Dallam School had the opportunity to put their skills into practice this week as they presented their investment analysis projects to representatives from Financial Management Bureau (FMB), a leading independent financial planning firm.

Working in teams, students were challenged to analyse the investment potential of six major companies: Siemens Power, Tesla, Rolls-Royce PLC, Marks & Spencer, General Motors, and Inditex. The task required them to research and evaluate financial performance, growth potential, and market position before pitching their chosen company as an attractive investment opportunity.

The event is a key part of the Business Studies curriculum and, as we have seen on many occasions, it becomes a memorable and formative part of the students’ educational journey—one they don’t forget. It’s about much more than understanding balance sheets and share prices: students develop a range of transferable skills including research, teamwork, critical thinking, presentation skills and the confidence to speak in front of others.

Having an external company like FMB involved makes the experience even more valuable, helping students connect their learning to the real world and raising their awareness of future careers in finance, business, and consultancy.

The standard of presentations was exceptionally high, with students answering challenging questions thoughtfully and demonstrating an impressive grasp of their subject matter. The judging panel from FMB praised all teams for their professionalism and preparation, before awarding first place to the team presenting on Rolls-Royce PLC. Teams analysing Marks & Spencer and General Motors were also highly commended as runners-up.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team from Financial Management Bureau for giving up their time to support our students—not only judging the presentations but also sharing valuable insights into careers in the financial sector.

The photo accompanying this article shows the winning team with their certificates. Well done to all who took part!
