Year 11 Maths Excellence: Progress, practice, and top tips for success!

Our Year 11 students have been putting in the work this week, completing two maths assessments to measure their progress so far. It’s inspiring to see so many of them going the extra mile with our Maths Clinic every Wednesday lunchtime, available for both higher and foundation tier students. Plus, they’re diving into weekly revision with half a past paper—an amazing way to practice independent problem-solving.

For extra support, our students can join maths tutor Hannah Kettle every Thursday evening for live walkthroughs on YouTube and TikTok (7pm for Foundation tier, 7:45pm for Higher tier). Prefer to watch on your own schedule? Simply scan the QR code at the front of each paper to access a pre-recorded video.

These papers come with topic breakdowns for each question, helping students focus on the areas that need the most attention.

Top tips for revising Maths:

1. Get hands-on with practice – The best way to improve is by doing questions yourself. The more you practice, the more confident and prepared you’ll feel!

2. Challenge yourself with tricky topics – While it’s tempting to stick to what you know, tackling challenging areas in revision means fewer surprises in the exam.

3. Ask for help when needed – During revision, your teachers, classmates, and online resources are there to support you—use them!

4. Simulate exam conditions – Try practicing questions in a set time with no assistance. This helps you get used to the pace and pressure of an exam.

5. Master your calculator – Make sure you know your calculator’s functions inside out to avoid surprises during the exam!

We’re proud of our Year 11s for taking these steps to strengthen their maths skills and wish them all the best as they keep moving forward. Keep up the hard work!
