Sixth Form Highlights: Taster Day, University Talks, and Futures Fayre
The past two weeks have been packed with exciting opportunities for our Sixth Form and prospective students, as we welcomed guests, hosted events, and gave students a real flavour of what life at Dallam Sixth Form is all about.
Sixth Form Taster Day
Last week, we welcomed both current and external Year 11 students to our Sixth Form Taster Day. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a range of subject taster sessions delivered by our expert teachers. It was brilliant to see students engaged and inspired in the classroom, exploring subjects they may wish to pursue next year.
Outside the classroom, students took part in a range of team-building activities, including rounders, inflatable darts, and giant Jenga. The sunshine made for a brilliant atmosphere, and it was fantastic to see students making new friends and enjoying their time together. We’re already looking forward to seeing these students again on Results Day, where our Sixth Form team will be on hand to support enrolment. Their first day as Sixth Form students will be Wednesday 3rd September.
We hope all our prospective Sixth Form students have a fantastic summer!

Northumbria University Presentation
Also last week, we welcomed a representative from Northumbria University to speak to our Year 12 students. The presentation covered everything from choosing the right university and course, to exploring degree apprenticeships. Our students engaged brilliantly, asking insightful questions and staying behind to seek personalised advice. Providing access to expert guidance is a key part of our Sixth Form offer, and we will continue to bring in universities, employers, and apprenticeship providers to support our students as they consider their Post-18 options.

Dallam Futures Fayre
This week, we hosted our annual Dallam Futures Fayre, a brilliant event that brought together a wide range of colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, and employers to give students clear, practical information about their next steps.
We were joined by:
- Lancaster & Morecambe College
- BAE Systems
- NHS
- University of Cumbria
- University of Sheffield
- University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)
- Gen2 Apprenticeships
- ASK Programme (Apprenticeships & Degree Apprenticeships)
- Dallam Sixth Form
The event was incredibly busy, with students making the most of the opportunity to explore different pathways and chat directly with the experts. It’s always inspiring to see our students leave these events feeling more confident and informed about their future choices.
