Inspiring Author Visits as Part of Our World Book Day Celebrations
As part of our extended World Book Day celebrations, students at Dallam School enjoyed two inspiring visits from authors who brought the world of storytelling to life.
On Tuesday 10 March, local author Henry Vyner-Brooks visited Dallam to speak with all Year 10 students about his history-inspired books and the craft of writing. Henry shared insights into how authors build suspense and keep readers engaged, giving students a fascinating glimpse into the techniques behind compelling storytelling. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about his work and the writing process, before Henry signed copies of his books.
Following the main presentation, Henry led two creative writing workshops with smaller groups of students. These sessions allowed students to explore their own ideas and put the techniques they had learned into practice, developing their confidence as young writers.
Later in the week, on Thursday 12 March, award-winning author Chris Bradford visited Dallam to work with students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Chris spoke about his popular Young Samurai series, sharing the inspiration behind his books and the journey that led him to become a published author.
Chris also captivated students with a demonstration of his samurai skills, bringing the themes of his books vividly to life. Students were able to ask questions, have books signed and take photos with him following the event.
At lunchtime, Chris presented certificates to our Millionaire Readers, celebrating the outstanding reading achievements of students who have read over one million words. He also met with a small group of aspiring writers to discuss his own writing process and to give a preview of his upcoming book projects.
Both visits were a fantastic opportunity for students to hear directly from successful authors and to be inspired by the creativity, discipline and imagination that underpin great writing.
We are extremely grateful to both Henry Vyner-Brooks and Chris Bradford for giving their time to inspire our students and support our ongoing commitment to developing a love of reading and writing at Dallam School.
