GCSE results show continued improvement at Dallam

Dallam School is celebrating improved GCSE results, with higher average attainment, more top grades and stronger performances across key subjects including English, maths and science.

A total of 161 students received their results at the Milnthorpe school today, with average attainment improving on 2025 and the proportion of grades at 9–7 also increasing. Students made better progress than last year across a broad range of subjects, including English, maths, combined science, geography, drama, music, religious studies, biology, chemistry, physics and technology.

English recorded one of the strongest gains, with the proportion of students achieving grade 5 or above rising by almost 10 percentage points compared with last year. Results at grades 4+, 5+ and 7+ all improved. Maths also strengthened, with students performing better against their individual target grades than in any of the previous three years. Average grades also increased in biology, chemistry and physics compared with 2025, while both attainment and progress improved in combined science.

Vocational courses also performed well, with students exceeding their average target grades in business studies, health and social care and food technology.

Among this year’s highest-performing students was Jack Moon, who achieved four grade 9s, a Distinction* equivalent to a grade 9, three grade 8s and a grade 7.

Niamh Forster achieved three grade 9s, a Distinction*, four grade 8s and a grade 7, while Lanni Kerr secured six grade 9s, a grade 7 and three grade 6s.

Headteacher Steve Henneberry said:

“I’m really proud of this year group. They have worked incredibly hard for these results, and I hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them. There are some exceptional individual results, but what is especially pleasing is seeing improvement across the wider picture and more young people achieving the grades we know they are capable of.

“That gives us confidence that the work happening across the school is having an impact. We have been very clear about the direction Dallam is heading in, and these results are another marker of progress. We know there is more work to do and our ambitions remain high.

“Ofsted recently highlighted that pupils at Dallam feel they belong here, and new national research has reinforced the relationship between belonging and academic attainment. The positive changes here at Dallam are proof that academic ambition and a strong sense of belonging are closely connected, and young people thrive when they feel safe, known and included.”
