Dallam Headteacher attends Royal Gun Salute celebration in York
Headteacher Steven Henneberry and his wife, Jeanette, were honoured to attend the Royal Gun Salute in York on Saturday 13 June, marking the Official Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.
Mr Henneberry was invited as a guest of the British Army following a nomination recognising his contribution to supporting young people through education and community leadership.
Held in the historic surroundings of York Museum Gardens, the event brought together civic leaders, military personnel and invited guests from across the region.
Guests were welcomed to The Hospitium before attending the ceremonial 21 Royal Gun Salute, fired by members of the Royal Artillery in honour of The King’s Official Birthday. The ceremony was accompanied by The Band of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment and included a formal military inspection led by The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Margaret Wells. Following the ceremony, guests attended a reception and luncheon hosted by Colonel Ashley Fulford OBE, National Colonel Army Cadets.
The occasion provided an opportunity to meet and speak with leaders from across education, public service, the voluntary sector and the armed forces, all united by a shared commitment to serving their communities and supporting future generations.

It was a tremendous privilege for Jeanette and me to attend such a special occasion and to represent Dallam School. The invitation was both humbling and unexpected, and it was inspiring to spend time with people who have dedicated their lives to education and supporting others. While I was honoured personally, I see the invitation as recognition of the work that takes place across our whole school community every day. Everything we do is focused on ensuring that young people feel they belong, learn successfully and have every opportunity to thrive.
The invitation follows a period of significant progress for Dallam School. The school’s recent Ofsted inspection recognised improvements across a number of areas, praising the school’s inclusive culture, strong pastoral support and commitment to ensuring that young people feel safe, valued and supported.
