Bon appétit! KS3 students in Languages have been undertaking cultural projects this month to widen their knowledge of the Francophone and Hispanophone worlds. Not only have they been developing their linguistic skills but students have also been given the opportunity to be creative and learn about new cultures. Year 8 have been learning about food in France and Spain. They have been preparing research presentations on food across the French speaking world. Year 8 French have been designing their own menus and recipes, and know all about how to make a croque monsieur! Year 8 Spanish have been developing their speaking skills by acting out a dialogue at an imaginary restaurant. Year 9 have been learning about fashion in France and have been designing their own online retailer webpage. It is great to see students working together and engaged in developing their cultural awareness as it shows an understanding of other cultures. This prepares them well for life in a diverse community and global world. By being culturally aware, they are learning to appreciate other people’s customs and beliefs and show respect and integrity, two of our core values here at Dallam. We cannot wait for next half-term as we will be undertaking the study of two foreign films. There might even be popcorn…
