Autumn 2025 reading newsletter
We’re proud to share our latest Reading Newsletter, celebrating a fantastic Autumn Term of reading across Dallam School.
This term has seen a strong focus on developing reading across all year groups, from diagnostic testing and targeted interventions to whole-school initiatives that promote a love of reading. Students have benefited from a range of support programmes, including Step, Leap and Bedrock, helping to build confidence, fluency and vocabulary.
In Years 7 and 8, students have fully immersed themselves in reading. Highlights include:
- Our transition text, A Long Walk to Water, which shaped learning across subjects
- Participation in the national Bookbuzz programme, with every Year 7 receiving a free book
- The expansion of Register and Read, creating shared reading experiences each week
- A hugely successful Readathon for World Mental Health Day, raising over £426 for charity
Our library continues to thrive as a central hub of the school, open daily and stocked with a wide range of texts to support all readers. With the introduction of the Accessit system, students can now explore, reserve and engage with books both in school and at home.
We’ve also seen great engagement through Accelerated Reader, with students working towards personalised reading targets and celebrating milestones—including our first “Word Millionaire” of the year.
To round off the term, we’ve included a selection of Christmas reading recommendations to keep students reading over the holidays.
