Location and history
Our location
Dallam School is located in the safe British countryside, between two National Parks—the UNESCO Lake District World Heritage Site and the Yorkshire Dales. We also have a stunning coast right on our doorstep. It is easy to see why this part of the UK inspired world-famous writers and artists such as Wordsworth and JMW Turner.
The wonders of the Lake District
The Lake District World Heritage Site is England’s largest National Park.
Home to Scafell Pike – its highest mountain, Wastwater – its deepest lake and thriving communities like Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere, the scenery in the area is simply breathtaking.
Visiting the Lake District is one of the most popular breaks for people across the UK and from further afield. The Lake District National Park has a wide range of activities and attractions, as well as the natural beauty of the entire area.
With 12 of the largest lakes in England and 3,105 kilometres of rights of way, there is always something exciting to do here.
At Dallam, we make the most of our wonderful surroundings and often organise trips and excursions to explore the spectacular Lake District.
Excellent transport links
Travel by plane: International students reach us easily after flying into nearly every major airport in the UK. Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport are the most commonly used, but Leeds/Bradford Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport are all easily accessible. In fact, it is also possible to get to London Airports in around three hours.
We also have very good links with public transport:
- Travel from Manchester Airport: The train travels directly from Manchester Airport to Arnside, our nearest station. It is a 15-minute taxi journey from Arnside to the boarding house in Heversham.
- Travel from London: There are trains from London Euston to Oxenholme Lake District, travelling directly on the West Coast mainline. Oxenholme Lake District is a 15-minute taxi journey to the boarding house.
- Travel by car: We can be reached by car in less than 90 minutes from the centres of Manchester and Liverpool and less than two hours from cities like Leeds and Newcastle.
We are close to the M6 motorway, which runs from Leicestershire through to Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Lancaster and Carlisle before terminating just before the Scottish border in Gretna. For Dallam, please exit the M6 at Junction 36.
